About My Doula Work

People sometimes ask me, “What is the secret to being a good doula?”

For me, the answer is very simple.

I believe in the incredible ability G-d gave women to be partners with Him in creation.

I have been working in the field of birth and supporting women since 2005, and over the years I have gathered knowledge, experience, techniques and practical tools. All of these things matter.

But they are not the heart of my work.

My most important tools are my hands and my heart.

My hands help me soothe, support, ground and communicate without words.

My heart helps me stay present, believe in the woman in front of me, and remind her of the strength that already exists within her.

I believe deeply in the wisdom of a woman’s body and in the extraordinary way she was created to bring new life into the world.

And perhaps one of the greatest paradoxes of childbirth is this:

It is when a woman learns to surrender to what is beyond her control that she becomes truly ready to partner with The Creator in the awesome journey of birth.

Surrender does not mean weakness. It does not mean giving up.

It means allowing.

Trusting.

Softening into the process rather than fighting against it.

My role as a doula is not to control a woman’s birth for her. It is to stand beside her, support her, protect the space around her, and help her remember that she can do this.

Because sometimes the most powerful thing I can offer a woman in labour is not another technique or another piece of information.

It is the quiet message:

I am here.

I trust you.

I believe in you.

And beneath all of that:

You were created for this.
